Jimmie Johnson transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal home on January 15, 2014 in Queens, New York. Jimmie had been battling with numerous health challenges and grew weary.
Jimmie was the second child born to the late George and Julie Jones Johnson on January 20, 1943 in St. George, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, his brother Clifton "Skeet" Johnson and stepmother Erma Johnson.
Jimmie Graduated from Williams Memorial High School in 1960. After graduating, he served his appointed time in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. Jimmie did not return to St. George, but rather made his home in New York.
He was employed by Franklin Glass Company as a glazier for many years until his health compelled him to retire.
He was married to Nellie C. Johnson and was the father of two sons.
Although St. George was never where he lived again, his heart was always ready and willing to return for a visit, especially during Campmeeting to see family and friends. He never forgot his foundation and upbringing and the people that impacted his life. He frequently began to say during the past year,"I want to come home just one more time." His wish has been fulfilled. He has come home. His loving and devoted wife Nellie Johnson; sons, Gregory Johnson and Talbott Currie, Queens, New York; sisters and brothers-in-law; cousins; and a host of family and friends will sincerely miss Jimmie and cherish fond memories.
